Seattle Day 3
I woke up at 9:30 AM and realized a little later that I got already 12 missed calls from Debbie. It turned out they were already awake at 8:00 AM. Morning people I suppose.
While waiting for Dad, Suk Cien, and Steven fixing, I went to pick up Debbie at her hotel. Brought them to Suk Cien place and waited for us to finish breakfast.
Off we went, to the first place, Suk Cien brought us to the University of Washington, where Livia graduated from. We did not find a lot of people and most of the buildings were closed. I reminisced, 8 years ago, I was in the campus taking summer course. The time when I did not have to worry about money, just studied and hang out with friends. But it soon changed when Indonesia's economy started collapsing, the first time the rupiah value was devaluated so much, it became 3,000 rupiahs from 2,500 a dollar in one day. I joked with my friends that I might as well go home if it hit 5,000 rupiahs. Soon enough, soared all the way to 12,000. O life... o life...
Second stop was the famous signature: Seattle Center. There was a Beer Festival, but since none of us (except Suk Cien maybe) were fond of drinking Beer, we skipped joining the festival. Besides, it would cost to join and we are cheap =P.
Then Queen Anne... Another tour of 2-3 Million Dollar Houses by Suk Cien. The last time I went with him it was in 2002 December, when I came to try snowboarding at a ski resort by Mt. Rainier. Hm... why did I not take pictures of any of the houses.
Then Picnic at Alki Beach
Then Suk Cien took us around downtown and stopped by the Farmers Market. I've been to the Farmers Market at least three times, but I had not had the chance to see the famous logo that I saw so often on postcards. Suk Cien drove on 1st Ave going south, then made a right turn on Pike St. There it was, my first encounter with the famous Red Neon Sign.
Having covered pretty much the famous tourist places, Suk Cien almost ran out of destinations. Then Microsoft popped to mind and off we went to take pictures with the Microsoft Trademark.

Father and Sons
Pretty cool picture, as if my father was the founder, and my brother and I were to inherit a billion-dollar company. Yeah right!!
I'm not sure if we went to Lake Snohomish or Lake Shamamish. One of the two I think. It's interesting that a lot of things are named after the Native Indian terms. The city name itself is after an Indian Chief. Look at Chief Steven posing with the lake.
The lake somewhat reminded me that my Seattle guidebook mentioned a beach which were often visited by youngsters. It's the Golden Gardens Beach Park. Suk Cien knew the place. It was located west of Ballard.
A.. Ballard, the area where he used to own a Mom-and-Pop shop. I told him that I intended to take father to the shop the next day. Well.. the shop was on the way to the beach. The area had been renovated and the shop had been turned into a small gym. It turned out quite nice considering that the shop was vested by some rats at some point.

Day 3 in Seattle was ended with a nice dinner at T&T. At the dinner, Debbie surprisingly told me that her parents were to buy the dinner. News that I had to honestly say I welcome very much.

Seattle Day 2.
Dad, my brother, and I, a trip to remember...
We arrived in Seattle yesterday around midnight. So exhausted but glad that we arrived safely.
We woke up around 1:00 PM. Suk Cien cooked his usual dish: Korean Beef Udon. Having not met for a long time, Dad and Suk Cien chat a lot, seemed to never run out of topics. I was just listening, and at the same time waiting for a call from Debbie.
I found out later that she could not get earlier flight so she would wait for her scheduled flight and would be arriving in Seattle at around 10:00 at night.
So Suk Cien first brought us to see his two sons: Alvin and Allen. Boy... have they grown tall. Alvin especially! Last year when I did volunteer work at Mt. Baker, I had a chance to meet him and Allen. I remembered Alvin's height was at my ear. Now, he is taller than me.

Alvin, Allen, and Suk Cien
Suk Cien then took us around the Chinatown. First stop was Uwajimaya, a proof that Japanese loved to eat Beef and Seafood.

Kobe Beef
Wonder how this $26.99/lb beef tastes like...
Got pretty interesting pictures from the store:
